Dr. Peter Denes’ interests focus on novel detection scheme for microscopies – particularly with electrons and X-rays – at high speed and fine spatial resolution. These high speed detectors allow image recording at a rate which outruns sample damage, enabling near-atomic resolution of biological specimen which could not otherwise be imaged. Recently, he and his group have begun to apply these technologies to recording electrical signals from the brain, with a goal of increasing the number of recording sites by orders of magnitude. Dr. Denes was a member of the Princeton University Physics Department from 1985-2000, and has been with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since 2000. At Berkeley Lab, he currently heads a group of biologists, nanoscientists, microelectronics engineers, and computer scientists working together on tools for neuroscience.
